Is it ever going to stop raining? Dylan is getting so bored of being home with me and Edith all day and with friends away on holiday (ours isn't for another week) we are running out of things to do that don't cost money. Usually he plays in our shared back garden with C&E from number 5 and then I can sew to my hearts content. However, on rainy days the only space in my house where I can sew becomes the play area. Meet our often misused and abused kitchen table/sewing room/village coffee shop and general heart of the house.
I get dizzy during the day with the amount of times I have to clear it and start again. One day I'm going to photograph it during the whole day just to see how many times it gets cleared. I'm trying to spend more time in the kitchen recently as I'm trying to cook more from scratch. Its a bit of a challenge for me, as when I was a working mum, Dylan had his lunch and dinner with his childminder so I only had to think of me a S, and most nights we had something pre-prepared. Shocking, eh? I'll never forget the day I realised I was going to have to feed Dylan 21 times a week - I was only used to feeding him at weekends - I went into shock! Well, its been a bit of a rollercoaster ride and there have been a few "That's yucky" moments but I think we are getting there. We still rely on the freezer a bit but when he starts school in September I shall be getting the slow cooker out every day - Anybody have any advice, recipes I will be really really grateful.
One thing that has really inspired me is Jamie Olivers new programme. I can't believe I can be so easily manipulated. I must be a marketers dream, but that's another story. I have been using big fat juicy tomatoes, mozarella and posh mushy peas. I tried to remember the recipe, but ended up making my own version with fresh peas mushed up with olive oil, s&p, and parmesan (He added loads of herbs etc but then his garden in the size of essex and mine is a damp spot in south wales)
I had it on garlic brushetta, with tomatoes and mozarella and balsamic vinegarette. I'd love to show you but I couldn't wait to eat it so I'd have to show you an empty plate! I think next time I'll add some bacon or parma ham.
I'm adding a foodie bit because I am determined to eat more healthily - perhaps its the guilt thing - If I am writing it down I'll have to be good....hmmm
Anyway, before I leave, I wanted you to see my pathetic raspberries. You know when soft-fruit just gives up the ghost and just turns into a fruit-flavoured gloop, that split second before mould sets in? I have been so disappointed with strawberries and raspberries this year and I really really try not to buy them flown in from light years away, but come on, they could just throw me a bit of respect back!
